When you buy Sailaway Pro on this website, you are prompted if you want to play via Steam or if you want a direct download.
For Steam you will have to install a Steam client program on your computer that will launch automatically every time you start up your computer. After the purchase you receive a code that you can use to unlock Sailaway in your Steam client. Or you can of course buy Sailaway directly from the Steam store.
If you opt for direct download, you receive a Setup program or a Mac disc image to install Sailaway on your computer. There are installation instructions for Windows and MacOS X

If you used Sailaway 1 before you started it via Steam. All you need to do is start Sailaway via Steam like you used to do. You will automatically start Sailaway II Basic. But don't worry, all the functions and boats that you used before are still there. You could say that all ex-Sailaway 1 users have a Basic-Plus license, although it is not called that way.
You can upgrade to Sailaway II Pro, to have access to new boats, but this is optional.
No, on Steam you can only buy a Sailaway II Pro license. Sailaway Free and Sailaway Basic are available on this website.
The license is stored on the Sailaway server, not on Steam. Sailaway Free, Basic and Pro use the exact same program. The only difference is who logs in. New users can buy Sailaway Pro on Steam, but existing users use the license that is registered to their account.
The mouse is the primary form of control in Sailaway but there are some keyboard keys to be aware of to help make some things easier:

In the left top corner of the Sailaway screen there is a button with a ? question mark on it. If you click that, you can open the list of keyboard shortcuts.
Most of these keyboard shortcuts can be adjusted in the main menu under Options - Gameplay.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Send the log file immediately after an error occurs, and before you reload Sailaway to play again. Otherwise, the error log will get overwritten and will not contain the error information to help find the source of your problem.
Open Windows Explorer
Go to C:\Users\<yourusername>\AppData\LocalLow\Orbcreation BV\Sailaway\
and locate the files called Player-prev.log and Player.log
Right-click the files one by one and select "Send to" and then email to send them to email@example.com
Open a Finder window
On the Menu bar, go to Go > Go to Folder
In the dialog that comes up, put in "~/Library/Logs/Orbcreation BV/Sailaway/" and click Go
Locate the "Player-prev.log" and "Player.log" files in that folder.
Right-click the files one by one and select "Share" and then email to send them to firstname.lastname@example.org
A challenge in Sailaway is a predefined journey that can be sailed at your own convenience. The fastest time to complete those journeys is registered here. Challenges are useful for records attempts like the fastest to cross the Atlantic, or for adventurous journeys.
There is probably a gamecontroller connected to your computer. One of the axis of the gamecontroller constantly returns a non-zero value. You can configure your gamecontroller in the main menu under Options, Gameplay and then scroll down. Disconnecting the gamecontroller should also solve the problem.
The framerate is probably too low and every now and then the graphics card is swapping virtual memory back and forth. Or if crashes occur, the most likely cause is running out of memory. Please consider the following:
- You may have applied big textures on your sails or on the hull of your boat
- Sailaway may be running at a high screen resolution, while you have a video card with too little dedicated video memory
- The graphics quality settings of Sailaway may be too high for your hardware
- You may have applied after effects like color correction, anti-alias or depth of field in the video settings of Sailaway
- Does your hardware meet the minimum system requirements
When you try adjusting the screen resolution, the graphics quality settings and reduce the size of the textures, things are likely to improve considerably. If not, send your player logfile to email@example.com and we will try to find out what the cause may be.
