Sailaway comes with 2 boat slots. One of them pre-filled with the 38' Cruiser. There is also the free Nordic Folkboat. The 38' cruiser is the perfect boat to undertake great voyages. The Nordisk Folkboat is smaller and easier to handle. A fine boat to learn the basics and get acquainted with the interface. For many people these are all they ever need for their sailing adventures.
To add an extra boat to your library you need a extra slot. You can have as many slots/boats as you like, but the price of each additional boat slot is 15 bubbles (€1.50). A bubble is the internal currency of Sailaway (see below). This one time fee is charged to compensate for the extra server capacity that is needed to keep the boats sailing, since Sailaway is not a subscription based game.
Once you have a free boat slot, you can fill it with a boat. There is the default cruiser or the folkboat to make an extra copy of, but there are many other boat designs available as well. When you're ready for something new, you can delete a boat and the slot becomes available again until you fill it with a boat of another design.
There are many custom designed boats available. Ranging from beautiful classic yachts, to trimarans, foiling racers, and more. The fleet is constantly growing. The boat designs can be purchased with bubbles as well and you pay them to the builder of the boat.
Once you own the rights to use a boat design, you can draw as many boats from it as you like, provided that you have the necessary slots available.
Bubbles can be bought with euros on the website here. They can be exchanged back into euros as well. (see the sections "Buying bubbles" and "Selling bubbles" below)
One bubble is €0.10 so 10 bubbles is 1 euro.
The bubbles are used to add an extra boat to your library, buy a specific boat design, buy a special deck layout or a beautiful livery. They are sometimes also used as subscription fee for some of the races (there are also free races of course) or as membership fee for an exclusive sailing club.
On the other hand it is also possible to earn bubbles buy creating a boat design, a deck layout or a livery. If you are not so handy you can earn bubbles by organizing races or running a non-free sailing club in such a professional way that people are willing to pay for it.
Sailaway III is NOT a pay to win game. It is not possible to make a boat go faster by spending more bubbles.
When you buy bubbles you pay €0.10 per bubbles plus a transaction fee of €1
The transaction cost are needed to cover the costs charged by our payment provider and the banks. The actual costs depend on the payed amount and the payment method used, but to prevent overcomplication a fixed fee of €1,-- is used.
When you sell your bubbles, a commission of 25% is deducted, so you receive €0.075 per bubble.
Sailaway charges the commission as a compensation for the use of the Sailaway tools, the market place and the use of the platform. They are also charged to cover the operational costs and hosting costs of keeping the Sailaway platform alive.
The international bank transaction costs will be charged to the receiver of the amount (BEN). The Euros will be converted into your local currency by your bank and the conversion rate they use may not be optimal. When only selling the minimum of 500 bubbles, the total of these bank costs may be almost as much as the amount itself. And eventhough the beneficiary is charged, Sailaway will still be charged for additional bank costs. Depending on the country, these additional costs may even be higher than our commission.
If you want to reduce the bank costs for your own and Sailaway's benefit, it may be better to use a Paypal account instead of a regular bank. It may also be better to save up your bubbles for one large transaction instead of several small ones.
If your account is not used for more than a year, any remaining bubble balance is cleared.
This may seem harsh, but unfortunately it is needed for administrative reasons. Without this rule, there would be an everlasting debt in our accounts.
But don't worry too much. All you need to do is simply log on to Sailaway at least once a year. And while you are there, why not sail around a bit and have some fun.
