The weather in Sailaway is retrieved from the NOAA services. The 6 hour in advance forecast is retrieved and gradually interpolated towards from the current weather situation. The forecast model used is GFS with a 0.25 degrees resolution.
Since the 6 hour forecast is used and not the actual weather, there may be small differences with the real world.

Global ocean currents are retrieved from the NOAA service as well. The OSCAR data is applied in the Sailaway world.
Tidal currents are partially available. Read more in the tides section below.
Tidal waterlevels are applied for each specific location, using the moon and sun together with the build-in local tide model.
Tidal currents are partially available for some coastal regions. However, you can help with that! It is very easy to enter local current data and you only need to do it once. Sailaway will then use that data together with the progression of the tide to simulate the tidal current for the region. The more sailors help out with this, the more complete the model will become.
