Rio de Janeiro → Trindade Islands Leaving Rio de Janeiro, the Albatroz points east into the South Atlantic, with more than a thousand kilometres of open ocean separating the Brazilian coast from Trindade. The destination is a small and isolated volcanic island rising abruptly from deep ocean, making landfall itself one of the defining challenges of the passage. GPS is not allowed: course, instruments, weather observations and careful navigation must lead the boat toward a remarkably small piece of land in a remarkably large ocean.
