From Ilha Grande, the Sterna continues southwest along one of the most dramatic sections of Brazil’s southeastern coast. Mountains rise close to the Atlantic, creating a succession of exposed stretches, bays and headlands along the way. The destination is the São Sebastião Channel, the narrow body of water separating Ilhabela from the mainland, where the surrounding terrain can strongly influence the wind during the final miles.
