Coronation to S.Sandwich

A hard crossing through some of the coldest and most isolated waters in the South Atlantic.
Starting near the Coronation Island area, the fleet heads east toward the remote South Sandwich Islands — a volcanic chain surrounded by rough seas, shifting winds, fog, and strong currents. These waters are known for unstable weather, heavy swell, and long periods far from any shelter.
The route mixes open-ocean strategy with endurance sailing. Wind transitions can completely reshape the race, especially near the islands, where katabatic effects, volcanic terrain, and frontal systems create unpredictable conditions.
