Named after the migratory bird Sterna paradisaea, the UCD01 Sterna is an experimental blend of speed and serenity - a cruiser–racer dinghy designed for sailors who seek freedom across all horizons. https://discord.gg/HJ2BNYbGdY Inspired by the Snipe, Dory and the most advanced racing boats, the Sterna combines agility and stability with a modern twist: Foil-assisted hull for smooth planing and control at high speed. Versatile sail plan: mainsail, jib, storm jib, and genoa with a bowsprit. Water ballast system for dynamic stability. Simplified rigging, easy to handle even in rough conditions. Built for shallow waters and heavy weather alike, the Sterna offers precise handling, lively trim response, and pure sailing joy. ⚠️ Warning: this boat can capsize. To recover, position it head to wind before righting. Note: The Sterna is an experimental virtual boat designed with one goal in mind: fun. It was created to explore the edges of performance within the current environment. The boat has its own behavior, sensitivities, and limitations, and it rewards attention, skill, and understanding over time. It is intentionally and unapologetically fast, operating outside what some would consider balanced for competitive fleet racing. Because of this, some events or organizers may choose to restrict its participation, which is understandable. For those who want to race the Sterna in a more consistent and well-organized setting, the UCD club runs frequent and active races. Most are one-design and ranked, with simple formats and structure, and prizes often coming from boat sales. The Sterna exists for experimentation and enjoyment.
