State of the art from the 1870's | |
The Sandbagger was a popular racing class on the American east coast from ~1865 to ~1885. They were light boats with huge rigs, and were ballasted with up to 30 50lb bags of sand, gravel, or shot, plus the weight of the crew. Sail area and shifting ballast were not penalized in the race rule of the time. This Sandbagger is based on the famous (at the time) Susie S. This version is water ballasted, and with modern rigging. a storm jib and gennaker have been added for fun. Change log: Aug 8, 2025 fixed Genniker leadcars, added walking surface to bow sprit. Aug 12, 2025 fixed port deck texture to match stbd |
