Leaving Rio de Janeiro and Guanabara Bay behind, the Sterna follows the coast west toward Ilha Grande and the waters of Angra dos Reis. The route gradually changes from an exposed coastal passage into a landscape shaped by islands, headlands and sheltered channels. The final approach to Ilha Grande rewards careful reading of the coastline, local winds and the many passages formed between the island and the mainland.
