Five Eighty is based off the Class Globe 5.80. A plywood home built Sailboat measuring 5.80 meters bow to stern that is used to compete in the Globe 5.80 Transat and Mini Globe Race. I have designed this boat to mimic these real life global cruisers as best that I can. It is rigged very simple and clean with a 3 reef Main, Jib, Genoa, and Gennaker. The Jib is sized inbetween a storm and regular sized Jib for this class. The Genoa is sized more like the regular Jib. All sail areas are close to the specifications for this class of racing boat. Not visible is an electric motor capable of 2.9 kts. Just enough to motor out of a tight spot. There are 17 diffrent surfaces that can be custom colored to make your boat stand out in a crowd. Also included are the overlays on the port and starboard bow that currenty show the number 580. But these can be changed to whatever number you would like. It just requires creating it in a paint program with an invisable canvas and saved as a png format. Then this can be uploaded to sailaway while editing the main hull in the paint section. I will post a video on you tube in the coming weeks on how to do this. My hope is we all can start competing in 580 races. I have set the total empty weight at 1050kg with the ballast at 260kg. I have really enjoyed creating and testing this boat. It's a sturdy cruiser and fun to sail. Check out the Five Eighty Intro video on Youtube. |
